Ideas For The Album Cover Names

Therapy

Inhibition

Propaganda

Reflex

Dilemma

We chose these names as all of them fit with the sort of genre song we are doing, overall we think the favourite is Therapy however we are going to wait until closer the time to make a final decision on the name.

research for ancillary products

Although we've not finished our first draft yet, we thought we should start reasearching in to ancilory products such as an album cover and a poster. I've collected lots of images below of album cover that inspire me.

This is Kingfs of Leon album - Only by the night. I love the way that the four artists have been split and peiced together with a falcon or something similar to create thisreally abstract and different effect.

This is TI's album - Paper Trail I love this art look to this image of TI himself. It looks as though its been really pixelated and then the indidual pixels have ben coloured in with paper. Looks good.

This is Eminems most recent album, recovery. I'm a secret hugeeeee fan of Eminem and think this cover is absolutley awesome as it totally represents what this album is about. It's about him peicing his life back together and walking away from all the bad things. Hence an empty road. Think it's really simple but conveys such a strong message.

Again an Eminem album cover, I just liked the setting and colours of this album cover.

This is the album that the song we're doing comes from. Avril Lavigne - Let Go. I think that gives off a strong message as it shows her in focus with a fussy background implying her loneliness which is predominantly spoken about in most of her songs.

I dont even know what artists cover this is, I just really liked the idea of a scrabble board to show the name. Its unique and different instead of just using and image.

This is possibly one of my favourite album covers. It so different and incorporates and image aswell as a strange way of showing the name. We came up with several ideas expanding off this cover which we'll later post.

Again another Eminem cover which matches the genre of our video. Also like the colouring kind of antique.

Final Name

After considering the various names on the previous posts, as a team we decided that we wanted to call Leonie FREYA, we called her this because we feel it's a different fairly unique female name yet simple and rememorable. We decided against adding on a last name because after researching famous artists they often are just one word names for example Rihanna, Beyonce,Lissie and Cassie.

Filming outside continued!

This is the setup of the filming we did outside. We parked mine and Louises cars behind the camera with full beams on for lighting, after uploading to the macs however, we see that the lighting still isnt enough.

Thats my car with one headlight out :)!

This is katie filming me :)

After completing our first set of exterior shots, we learnt that lighting is a huge issue. We thought that two cars with full beams would be enough lighting but it wasn't as the image still wasn't clear enough. Problems like this occuring make it clear why a first draft is important, so that mistakes are rectified in plenty of time. We have now planned to film earlier on in the evening to gain a slightly darker effect but hopefully so that there is still sufficient light. Also, setting is an issue. We chose this setting, (Enderby Industrial Estate) as we imagined it to be very empty at night time. However there was a stream of lorries going past us throughout our filming and caused us to stop and start filming. For our next exterior shots we've changed our destination to Whistle way which is a secluded area where there won't be traffic.

Uploading our footage so far

Today me and Katie both have a free lesson together so we thought this would be a good opportunity for us to get the footage we have obtained so far onto the Macs. This is also much safer as then we've backed it all up incase something happened to the film. The lip syncing we did the other day has turned out great, Leonie really went for it so really happy with that scene! :) We also have plenty of footage so if something does go wrong later in the filming process we have plenty of the close up lyncing footage to pad it out with. However, we're all not so pleased with the stuff we filmed last night :( Everything looks much brighter on the camcorder than what it does on the Macs, so the fact we filmed at night has really worked against us as it looks really dull (even with all our fake lighting!). Some of it is ok and will be fine to use, but the majority just looks poor and not up to par with the rest of our footage, so this will need to be corrected for the final version. Lesson learnt = more lighting required than what the camcorder leads you to believe! Good progress so far though :)

Filming Outside

Last night myself, Leonie, Katie and our friend Laura all went out to film some outdoor shots of Leonie. This was difficult as we needed it to be dark to create the right atmosphere, but not so dark that we couldn't see Leonie. We went to Enderby Industrial Estate as we thought it would be quiet and empty - we were wrong! Many lorries etc kept coming by which interrupted filming emmensely. However, we did crack on and get some good footage. We lined up mine and Leonie's car next to eachother with full beam on to give us the lighting and also brought an extra torch for extra light onto her face. We tried various shots and ideas for example walking around her while she sang the lyrics, filming her walking down the path and filming her walking towards the camera. Overall filming was good, we're not sure if we're 100% going to use the footage we obtained yet as we feel we could get something better but we'll find out once we've all met up and had a proper look at it on the Macs.
(Pictures to come!)

Filming Schedule

Tuesday 26th October - Filming from 9pm onwards at : Narborough train station, Enderby Industrial Estate and Whistle Way
We will need : Leonie to be in the correct clothing (coat, scarf, winter clothing etc) and possibly an umbrella depending on the weather
Friday 29th October - Filming from 4pm onwards : Filming the kitchen argument with Tyler and Leonie, taking Tyler to the pub and Leonie and Tyler down whistle way

We will need : To buy Tyler a pint of beer at the pub ( hes 18 so its fine!), brolly and extra lighting such as torches
Tuesday 2nd November - At school in double media : Uploading the footage onto the Macs to begin the editing process.

We will need : Our camera, fire wire and all our tapes

New Ideas

We decided when filming that instead of using the natural makeup for the backdrop scenes , we would use heavier makeup. We used red lipstick on leonie and did dark eyes on her , we decided to use it in order to create a more powerful and bolder statement to fit with the bolder parts of the music.

filming!

During half term we started filming our first draft. We started by filming all the lip syncing parts. We filmed me lip syncing the song the whole way through 3-4 times so that we could pick the best one and so that we had plenty of spare footage in case we came up short in the editing stage. We emptied my dining room and draped black material over the photos on the wall. We shut the curtains and blocked the sun with a blanket coming in through the conservatory doors so that we could create a false light using a lamp. (photos to come!!) We filmed a close up, (just head an shoulders) straight on, from the left and from the right and also an extreme close up so that we can cut the bits we want to put it all together. I was so embarrased to film at first that we just had to set the camera to record and make louise and katie leave the room while i did it! but we got the footage we wanted in the end and we're all pleased with it :), were aiming to carry on tonight to get the outdoors dark rainy scenes and hopefully be editing by the end of the week providing we have all our footage.

Filming tonight!

tonight we're going to try get all our outdoor scenes filmed which involve Leonie, but not Tyler. not sure when Tyler is free so need to chance him up to get the argument in the kitchen scene filmed, the pub scene and him and Leonie reuniting. we're going to use our cars on full beam to get lighting on Leonie, but still have it at night time to get the atmosphere we desire. hopefully this will look ok, if not we will have to get some extra torches to create more lighting. we're hoping for rain, but if not its not the end of the world as the dark cold setting should give off the same effect.

Risk Assessment for the Outdoor Shots

Filming outside will have many risks -

- cars

- lorries

- strangers!

- tripping over

to avoid all these problems were going to make sure we're always paying attention to our surroundings, especially near leonie as she wont be able to concentrate on the background as well as on the filming. we also need to clear the ground of anything that any of us may trip on as this could cause injuries or break the camera. as it is a remote industrial estate we've got to expect some lorries etc to be moving at that time, but we will just have to pause filming and deal with this as it comes. these are not likely to affect us, but they still need to be concidered as we want everything to run safely and smoothly so everyone comes back in one peice! :)

Storyboarding

as a group we've decided to do a written storyboard as well as an image version. we thought it would be easier to think of the song as different sections and then decide what to do in them sections, before planning out what exactly is going to be shot and how. i feel this has worked effectively as now we have a much clearer idea of how to storyboard and the various shots we need within each section. the image storyboard is very rough, this is because at this stage we genuinely didnt know how our video was going to look so we just went with our instincts and came up with these pictures. however, these pictures still reflect our written storyboard so it does all sync together nicely. i decided to put the storyboard onto animoto as i feel this is a more unique way of displaying it and means i could add our chosen song onto it too.
:)

Storyboard Written Outline

Storyboard Outline

Tuesday, 5 October 2010

These four screen grabs are from the songs Oasis - Whatever, Kelly Clarkson - Because of you, Sinead O Connor - Nothing compares to you, and Janelle Monae - Cold war. All four of the videos portray the style we hope to also portray in which a large percentage of the video is performed with the main artist using a close up to lip sync the song, and also attempting to show emotion. This saves any complications with creating an over complicated storyline for the audience but still portrays a powerful message.

New Ideas 2

I think the ideas of incoroporating flashbacks of fighting and arguing scenes would give a more dramatic and emotional effect to the music video as it creates a storyline which ties in with the lyrics to our chosen song. I agree with louise's idea about the black backdrop to start with and just the artist lip syncing as even though its simple , as proven in both ginelle monae's video and sinead o'connors video, it looks good and profesional.

Avril Lavinge-I'm with you
